COLTIVARE IN CASA LA PIANTA DEL CAFFÈ
Ultimamente vendono in molti vivai le piante di coffea arabica...
La pianta di coffea arabica è quella più indicata per la coltivazione ai nostri climi. In natura può arrivare a 8metri di altezza, in vaso, se ben tenuta, può arrivare a 2 metri.
Fiorisce verso marzo aprile. Ha fiori bianchi a stella molto profumati.
I frutti, prima verdi e poi rossi a maturazione, contengono 2 semi verdi che tostati diventano color caffè... i chicchi di caffè.
CLIMA E TEMPERATURA Bisogna ricordare che la coffea arabica è una pianta originaria dell'Africa e quindi va tenuta tra i 13 e i 30/32°C: sotto i 13°C deve essere tenuta in casa, sopra i 32° C e con bassa umidità dell'aria, bisogna tenerla al riparo dei raggi solari e oltre a bagnarla consigliano di nebilizzare tronco e foglie, che altrimenti potrebbero ingiallire.
ANNAFFIATURA: Deve essere bagnata almeno una volta al giorno (in estate, meno in inverno) e andrebbero nebulizzate le foglie, prestando però attenzione ai ristagni d'acqua.
UNA VOLTA ALL'ANNO: la coffea arabica deve essere rinvasata, perché cresce molto e ha bisogno di vasi man mano più grandi, circa 2 cm, senza esagerare perché cresce meglio se le radici sono un po' costrette.
Deve essere anche potata in modo che possa mantenere un aspetto ordinato e controllato. In questo modo inoltre ci sono maggiori possibilità di fioritura.
MALATTIE: sono abbastanza rare.
Se le foglie diventano ricoperte di una patina biancastra può essere infestata dalla cocciniglia.
Se ci sono piccoli pallini neri sotto le foglie è probabile che si tratti di afididagli.
Se invece si notano ragnatele sotto le foglie vuol dire che è infestata da un ragnetto rosso.
Per ognuno di questi problemi ci sono prodotti appositi nei centri per il giardinaggio.
Se le foglie ingialliscono e cadono ha sofferto di sbalzi di temperatura o insufficienza di acqua.
La pianta produce frutti nel periodo autunnale ma solo una volta adulta.
